Kingston MRI and KMI X-Ray & Ultrasound

KMI X-ray and Ultrasound reception area

Kingston Medical Imaging is a community based clinic licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Our goal is to ensure that patients receive safe, high quality MRI, Digital X-ray and Ultrasound examinations. Kingston Medical Imaging is a provider of timely, high quality diagnostic imaging and interpretation services serving Kingston and the surrounding area. KMI is licensed by the Ministry of Health and LongTerm Care.

  • MRI: Utilizing powerful magnets and radio waves, MRI provides detailed images of internal structures, aiding in diagnosis.

  • Ultrasound: Using high-frequency sound waves, ultrasound generates real-time images, making it invaluable for examining organs, tissues, blood flow, and guiding procedures like biopsies or injections.
  • X-rays: Our efficient X-ray service employs electromagnetic radiation to capture images, aiding in the detection of a range of medical issues.

We have performed MRI scans on over 12,000 patients in the last year and over 200,000 OHIP funded patients since opening in 2003.

We offer examinations that cover Neuro, Body and Musculo-skeletal cases. We provide 110 hours per week of OHIP-insured MRI services. MRI services to non OHIP-insured patients (e.g. Workers Safety and Insurance Board, Canadian Armed Forces, funded research studies, etc.) are provided outside of the core hours. All MRI services require referral from a physician licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Kingston MRI is operated by the local Kingston Radiologists and has state-of-the-art technology. Our goal is to provide patients with the highest quality of MRI service, increased access and decreased waiting times. We are located at 776 Blackburn Mews, Kingston.

All MRI studies are interpreted by the same Radiologists providing MRI interpretation to Kingston Health Sciences Centre (General Hospital, Hotel Dieu Hospital, Imaging Kingston), Kingston Regional Cancer Center, Providence Continuing Care Centre, and the Ontario Screening Program.

These Radiologists hold academic appointments at Queen’s University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, where they are involved in medical research and training of future Radiologists and other health care professionals. The same group of Radiologists also operates KMI X-Ray and Ultrasound in two Kingston locations: 836 John Marks Avenue and 776 Blackburn Mews East.

MRI scans paid by third party payers (insurance companies, WSIB, Canadian Military) will also be at no cost to patients. However pre-approval from third party payer is required before the MRI scan is scheduled.

Written reports are faxed or mailed to your doctor generally within approximately 5 -10 days of your exam, often sooner. If you know you have a follow-up doctor’s appointment sooner, please let our staff know so we can make appropriate arrangements.
